School calendars differ greatly across the U.S. - some schools are year round, some start school in August, while others start in September. In all cases, the first day back to school should be a celebration to kickoff the new school year.
Most teachers organize a First Day of School celebration with a special classroom welcome. Introduction games for classmates are played integrating literacy skills. Classroom rules and teacher expectations are covered. Teachers work with their school lists to help students figure out daily routines that include lessons, library time, gym time, music time, lunch, recess and bus dismissal.
