Easy Day Braised Beef

Ingredients:

• 3 bacon strips, diced
• 2 lbs. beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
• 1/2 tsp pepper
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1 tsp vegetable oil
• 1 onion, cut into wedges
• 1 tsp garlic, minced
• 1 bay leaf
• 1 (12 oz.) can non alcoholic beer
• 1 tbsp soy sauce
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tsp dried thyme
• 2 tbsp flour
• 1/4 C of water

Preparation:

1. Cook the bacon is a skillet over medium heat until crisp.
2. Drain the bacon well on paper towel and discard the bacon drippings.
3. Sprinkle the stew meat well with the salt and pepper.
4. Place the vegetable oil into the skillet over medium heat.
5. Add the stew meat and stirring often brown the meat 8 minutes or until browned.
6. Remove the meat with a slotted spoon and place in the slow cooker.
7. Crumble the bacon over the meat.
8. Add the onion to the slow cooker.
9. Sprinkle in the garlic and add the bay leaf.
10. Pour the non alcoholic beer, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce into a bowl.
11. Stir the thyme into the mixture.
12. Pour the mixture over the ingredients in the slow cooker.
13. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until the meat is fork tender.
14. Whisk the flour into the water until smooth.
15. Stir the mixture slowly into the slow cooker.
16. Cover and adjust the temperature to high.
17. Cook 30 minutes or until thickened.
18. Remove the bay leaf and discard then serve over cooked noodles.

Makes 8 servings

Cooking Time: approximately 6 1/2 hours
Total Time: approximately 6 hours 50 minutes
