Arlington Cemetery is located in northern Virginia, directly across Memorial Bridge from the Lincoln Memorial. It has more than doubled in size since the Civil War. The land was once owned by George Washington Parke Custis (the adoptive grandson of George Washington) and later by Custis's daughter, Mary, and her husband Robert E. Lee. The first person buried in Arlington National Cemetery was a Confederate soldier who died in captivity. Many of the five thousand original gravesites were crude wooden markers. At first only unidentified soldiers or those whose families were too poor were buried here. Today, more than 250,000 Veterans, including presidents Taft and Kennedy lie in Arlington National Cemetery. Also entombed there is astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom and the remains of the seven Challenger crewmembers.
Flags are only permitted at gravesites on Memorial Day Weekend.
A scrambler is a program that chops up an image and scrambles up the pieces (requires the java plugin). The object of the game is to swap 2 pieces at a time until all pieces end up in position to form the completed picture. These scramblers all come with a 4 minute timer. Can you beat the clock? These games require a keen eye for detail. Now that you've created the picture, can you find out more information about this monument?
