- Coolidge grew up in rural Vermont. As a boy, one of his favorite activities was making maple syrup.

- After becoming a lawyer, Coolidge became involved in politics - city councilman, governor of Massachusetts and then vice president of the United States.

- Coolidge became president in the middle of the night when President Warren Harding died on August 2, 1923.

- Coolidge supported big business versus working people. The Great Depression started a few months after he left office.

- Coolidge had a pet racoon named Rebecca that he let roam the White House.

- Coolidge like to wear a cowboy hat and ride a mechanical horse for exercise. He received the mechanical horse as a gift.

- Calvin Coolidge didn't talk much. He was nicknamed "Silent Cal."
