- Cleveland had 8 brothers and sisters.

- Cleveland was 16 when his father died. At that time, he quit school to go to work. He studied law part-time.

- Cleveland served as county sheriff in upstate New York.

- In 1881, Cleveland became mayor of Buffalo, New York. He worked to clean up corruption. He also was governor of New York before becoming president.

- Cleveland vetoed many bills, which some say cost him the election against Benjamin Harrison.

- Cleveland was the first and only president to get married in the White House.

- Lady Liberty was shipped to New York Harbor during Cleveland's first term in office. He dedicated the Statue of Liberty in October 1886.

- President Cleveland had secret surgery to remove mouth cancer in 1893. He didn't want the American people to worry, so he had the surgery done on a friend's yacht.
