1874 Born in West Branch, Iowa
1891 Enrolled at Stanford University
1898 Became Chief Engineer of the Chinese Imperial Bureau of Mines
1899 Married Lou Henry
1900 The Boxer Rebellion trapped the Hoovers in Tiensin, China
1903 Son Herbert Clark was born
1907 Son Allan Henry was born
1908 Established his own engineering firm
1914 Headed the Commission for Relief in Belgium
1917 Appointed United States Food Administrator
1921 Became Secretary of Commerce
1928 Elected President of the United States
1929 Inaugurated as the 31st President of the United States
1929 The Stock Market crashed on October 29th, marked the start of the Great Depression
1932 More than 10,000,000 Americans are unemployed
1932 Lost the re-election for President
1933 U.S. population is 125,600,000 with 48 states in the Union
1933 Adolph Hitler became chancellor of Germany
1933 20th Amendment of the Constitution is adopted which made Hoover the last "lame duck" President
1934 Published his book The Challenge to Liberty
1944 Mrs. Lou Henry Hoover died
1947 Truman appointed Hoover chairman of the Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of the Government
1954 he Herbert Hoover Foundation was created by a group of friends
1964 Hoover died on October 20th at the age of 90 in New York City
