- After high school, Carter went to the United States Naval Academy and became a nuclear submarine engineer.

- James Carter, Jr was always known as Jimmy. He was sworn in as president as Jimmy Carter.

- During his presidency there was an energy crisis - causing a shortage of gasoline and high prices.

- In 1979, 52 Americans were captured at the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran by a group of Islamic students and militants. They weren't released until the day Carter left office.
