Abe Lincoln Remembers by Ann Turner, Wendell Minor (Illustrator) Abe Lincoln remembers covers Lincoln's memories from boyhood to the end of the Civil War. His reflection occurs on the fatal night of attending Ford's theater. As he waits for his wife Mary to finish dressing for the play, he thinks back over his life and shares his thoughts with the reader. Though the book is considered a fictionalized biography, the fact that it's told in the first person gives Lincoln a sense of humanity not found in other biographies. The book follows Lincoln's recollection of humble beginnings in a log cabin and hard work as a flat boater and store clerk before studying to become a lawyer and eventually entering politics. Lincoln recalls his marriage and birth of three energetic sons. The focus of this book is not on Lincoln's assassination, but on his life's achievements. Illustrations are historic lifelike portraits and alone are worth sharing with the class. |
