- Nixon earned a nickname of "Tricky Dicky" due to the tricks he used to win an election to the Senate in 1950.

- During Nixon's term, the nation was divided over the war in Vietnam. There were many protests over the Vietnam War and also civil rights.

- Nixon had a bowling alley installed in the White House.

- Nixon was in office when U.S. astronauts landed on the moon.

- Nixon brought the troops home from Vietnam.

- Nixon improved relationships with China and the Soviet Union. In 1971, communication with Communist China opened up after the Chinese invitation to the U.S. to compete in a Ping-Pong competition.

- Nixon resigned from office when he lied about the Watergate scandal. He resigned so he did not have to face trial in the Senate.
