The Last Snake in Ireland: A Story About St. Patrick by Sheila Macgill-Callahan, Will Hillenbrand (Illustrator)
A magical tale with a surprise ending that brings out the Irish in all of us! Legend has it that St. Patrick sent all the snakes in Ireland to the sea. This fictional book shares a humorous rendition of how that may have happened. When a band of snakes pick on his lame dog, he decides rid the country of them. He uses a magical bell to drive them to the sea. He got rid of all the snakes but one before the magic in the bell was used up. The last snake was the biggest and meanest of them all and was determined to make St. Patrick's life miserable. After much effort, Patrick sends the snake into Loch Ness in nearby Scotland. Years later, when Patrick finally returns to check on the snake, he finds something much, much bigger. Children will enjoy this surprise ending.
