 Flag Meaning: The diamond located in the center of the flag is representative of Arkansas being the only state in the Union with a diamond mine. Twenty-five stars in a blue border shows that Arkansas was the 25th state to join the Union. The large blue star above the state's name commemorates the state as a member of the Confederacy during the Civil War. The three stars below the name stand for France, Spain, and the United States - the three countries that at one time Arkansas was a part of. They also indicate that Arkansas was the 3rd state created from the Louisiana Purchase. The flag was adopted in 1913. |
