Flag Meaning: The state seal is centered on the flag in a field of dark blue. The seal consists of several symbols. A figure of a woman holds a liberty pole and cap in one hand and the scales of justice in the other. She symbolizes both freedom and woman accepting with man the responsibility for the state's welfare. The miner, with a pick ax on his shoulder, represents Idaho's mineral wealth and spirit of its pioneers. The forests and the Snake River that separate the two figures symbolize Idaho's natural beauty and its lumber industry. Agriculture wealth is represented by the wheat sheaf and 2 horns of plenty. An elk's head appears beneath the scroll with the state's motto. The elk represents the wildlife found there. The red band beneath the seal says "State of Idaho." The flag was adopted n 1927 and slightly modified in 1957. |
