Oregon flagFlag Meaning: On one side of the flag, are symbolic elements from the state seal - a gold shield supported by 33 stars is centered on a dark blue field. The 33 stars represent Oregon as the 33rd state to join the Union. An elk in the mountains represent abundance of game there. Also represented are a covered wagon, the Pacific Ocean, a British man-of-war and an American steamer. These represent early settlement and an end of British influence. The plow, sheaf, and pick ax stand for farming and mining. Above the shield is an eagle clenching an olive branch and the words "State of Oregon." Below the shield, the date 1859 is displayed which represents the year Oregon joined the Union. The other side of the flag displays a gold beaver. The flag was adopted in 1925.
