The Wisconsin coat of arms is in the center. The sailor represents labor on water. The miner represents labor on land. Both hold a shield with four sections. On the shield there is a plow (for agriculture), an arm and hammer (for manufacturing), a shovel and pick (for mining), and an anchor (for navigation). The word "Wisconsin" appears above the seal, and "1848" appears below. That date represents the year Wisconsin joined the Union. Yellow fringe borders 3 sides of the flag. The latest version of the flag was adopted in 1913.
